It’s a tradition when returning home from vacation to bring home gifts for friends and family. A holiday across Europe has produced a stack of wax for the listening pleasure for the Radioactive Metal family. When mixed with some cool sounds closer to home we’ve concocted a killer metallic cocktail. Mix one part WASP, Suicide Silence, Cage, and Protest The Hero. Add one part European metal (Arakain, Hellias and Cemetery of Scream) and a pinch of Brazil’s Shadowside. Mix well and ingest in massive amounts.

Like a Hurricane

One could almost consider this episode Part Two (sorta...maybe) of our German Metal Invasion as we present an interview with the biggest band ever outta Germany, The Scorpions. Okay we speak to American drummer James Kottak (We did say "sorta"). As famous The Scorps are for their music they're equally infamous for their album covers and we let the conversation flow toward that dying art.

Teutonic Metal Invasion

Heavy Metal may be a style of music full of sub-genres und fan dividing labels, but none can be attributed to Teutonic Metal. Representing the entire country of Germany und spearheaded by their own big three of Kreator, Destruction und Sodom, The Teutonic Scene was an underground front runner. Accept, Halloween, Warlock, Grave Digger und Tankard may not be household names, but proved there’s more to Germany than Bier und Schokolade. Horne Oben!

Queen of the Ryche

Seattle and Heavy Metal have a love/hate relationship. With one simple riff, “hair metal” was wiped out and metal in general was a much maligned term and genre for a while. Before flannel and heroin though, Seattle has a growing scene which produced some key members of the metal community, particularly Queensryche. We speak to axeman Michael Wilton about their brilliant new album “American Soldier” and the city scene in general. We also introduced Seattle’s own Bonehand.com to give us a rundown of the current scene.

Metal Violins

Heavy Metal has it's basic components. Drums, bass, a (preferable) double axe attack, a bad ass vocalist, and interesting, compelling lyrics that both entertain and educate. Over the years though our beloved genre has continued to evolve and expand so naturally so  would the sound(s) and instrumentations. Same with the musicians who are creating them. Toni Iommi may not have had the flute in mind in '70 but now the modern metal sound isn't shy of the violin, cell, piano, even full blown orchestras,  to get their metallic point across. We speak to renowned classical violinist, and dedicated Metalhead, Rachel Barton Pine who's currently applying her trade with EARTHEN GRAVE. We also managed to pull the strings of VIO7 mainman Armand. Open your ears and expand your mind.

Roots Metal Roots

Once ruling the Metal underground, Sepultura 2009 has evolved into a whole new breed of band and has been an oft discussed topic (or point of contention) since the resignation of the first Cavalera sibling. The arrival of their latest record has seemed to draw the battlelines even further going so far as to invading the offices here. So now is the opportune time to add Sepultura to our ongoing single band focus episodes. We dissect the discography, pick the highs and lows, and decide if "A-Lex" is A-list.

The Metal World doesn't stop revolving just because of a minor unscheduled hiatus. Our "to-do" tray is piling up and it is time to get up-to-speed on the metal news. Unlike the corporate news sources, we prefer "infotainment" and augment the news with some favorite bands, including the mighty Testament, Lamb of God, Cynic, Septic Flesh, rising upcomers Gojira and hard working indie band K626. Listen and learn.

Metalfeast

With America glued to the idiot box for the annual pigskin and wardrobe malfunction tradition, we give it the old college try with an interview with the legendary Bloodfeast. Founding member Adam Tranquilli wowed the 80s Metal underground with this "new renaissance" and today is his own euphemism with his current project Without End. Final score- interesting thrash Metal...Infinite. Boring mainstream crap...zero!!

Firing on All 8 Strings

Just being a metal band alone will force an artist to over come many adversities. Particularly in this day and age for an all-instrumental outfit. The newly signed Scale The Summit, just as their moniker would suggest, are up for the challenge and don't mind telling us in an exclusive interview. We tackle a rather abundant newsweek and our currently awaiting our finders fee.

Metal Immortality

Our favorite Metal artists and groups have a limited shelf life, literally and figuratively. Some of our artists will live up as close as humanly possible to their legendary status while others will live up to their "live fast, die young" motto. Band longevity is on a case by case basis and cannot be easily defined. One artist's music will straight line when the man does while others will continue to drag their irrelevant 'carcass' out to "nostalgia night" at your local venue.Last year Ozzy sang "I Don't Wanna Stop!". We'll give him odds.
